The 21st century is referred to as the age of technology and rightly so. Look around you, there are people on their phones, laptops and using all kinds of electrical equipment. Here are a few breakthrough technologies of the year of 2017:-
1) REVERSING PARALYSIS:
This is a remarkable breakthrough by French neuroscientist Gregoire Courtine who made excellent progress at using brain implants to restore the freedom of movement which your spinal cord injury might take away from you. The proper technology will probably be available in 10- 15 years.
2) PRACTICAL QUANTUM COMPUTERS:
Remember the high power computers with unbelievable power that you gaped at while watching Marvel and other superhero movies? Well, they are finally a reality with labs at QuTech, a Dutch research center coming up with some of the most advanced work on quantum computing.
3) THE 360-DEGREE SELFIE:
If you’re ‘socially’ active, then you must have come across little posts which allow you to scroll to see the surroundings of picture creating a quite surreal experience? This is possible due to a certain camera used by Koen Hufkens that takes spherical images, thereby commemorating a new era in the photography department.
4)”HOT” SOLAR CELLS:
These cells are famed to be twice as efficient as the old ones for a phenomenon in which they convert “heat to focused beams of light.” It is “roughly twice as efficient as conventional photovoltaics” and could possibly produce solar power that can be used at night.
5) GENE THERAPY:
Gene therapy has been the dream of the researchers for decades now. Several mishaps had almost led to the idea to be discarded, but in today’s age and time, it is very much real and has been put to use too! Scientists have finally discovered a major cure for rare hereditary disorders. Who knows? Could cancer, heart disease, etc. be taken out next?
6) SELF-DRIVING TRUCKS:
This is to be available in the next 5-10 years and might be a nightmare for every truck-driver soon. Soon, you will get accustomed to seeing human-less trucks driving themselves beside you.
7) THE CELL ATLAS:
This will help us know our body better. Until now, researchers are of the opinion that our body has 300 different types of cells. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out the actual amount is far more than predicted. Hence, this mega project is in the works.
8) PAY BY FACE:
Baidu, China’s most popular search engine allows face scans to let people buy rail tickets. They now authorize financial payments, can track down criminals amongst other things. The world will soon follow suit to achieve this scientific dystopia.
9) AI (THAT LEARNS LIKE HUMANS):
It is a top market artificial intelligence which is based on the befuddling technique of reinforcement learning. Siri has some serious competition!
10) BOTNETS OF THINGS:
Every good thing has a bad side to it, and this is possibly the worst. It is malware that “takes control of webcams, video recorders, etc. to wreak havoc upon the Internet.
